Has anyone noticed the recent disregard for the NCPC plan to create a
new greenway/mall at South Capital Street?

(Please note that the stadium site is not on the South Capital axis
itself.)
The proposed stadium would be like building a large structure that
intruded into the National Mall, to front the axis of "West Capital
Street", before the Mall was built, in order to block the Mall, so as
to provide more real estate square footage.
Interestingly, the entire DC City Council seems oblivious to this, as
I have found no mention of any such awareness in news reports.
Apparently, once again, true long term planning is betrayed for
someone's misplaced idea of profit (e.g. for relatively little more
square footage for real estate development, over the extra rent
obtainable from such development placed sensibly back for the
greenway, which would make it easier rather then more expensive to
coordinate infrastructure projects).
For instance, with the stadium proposed for the east side of South
Capital Street, how will this impact the proposed South Capital Street
Tunnel connecting I-295 and the Suitland Parkway with I-395? The
proposed tunnel is to pass beneath the stadium site. Will the
stadium's foundations anticipate the tunnel?
Incredibly (to me anyway), I have seen NO mention of this betrayal of
the future greenway, with discussions primarily or exclusively focused
on money.
