The U.S. National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) has just released
new renderings of the future South Capital Street area with the
proposed D.C. Nationals Stadium- which looks a bit like the D.C.

This looks very nice indeed.

For one, it looks like Potomac Gardens might be going the way of the
Dodo, which can only be A Good Thing.

The proposed South Capitol Commons looks as if it might be intended to
reproduce the successes of the popular Dupont Circle Park, which might
not be the favorite of traffic-flow planners, but which has a thriving
variety of public-use cultures making use of that space.

The open-space axis between the proposed South Capitol Commons and the
proposed Suitland Interchange rotary will "centerpiece" the river, and
from either side of the river there will be a "far view".

I'm really rather impressed. I also suppose that this will be largely
completed about 2025, at which time Global Warming will raise sea-level
to about the height of 18th Street and Columbia Road in Adams Morgan.
Hopefully they'll build all of this with the sort of stone and concrete
that can endure for millenia beneath the shifting seas.

Am I missing some thing here. Where are they going to put the
railroad line that now follows the easement of Virginia Avenue
above grade west of New Jersey Avenue SE to 9th Street SW and
underground from east of New Jersey Avenue SE to east of 11th
Street SE? How are they going to connect South Capitol Street
to the Southwest Freeway and the 3rd Street tunnel? How do they
plan to squeeze the proposed underground Southeast Freeway into
the same under ground easement with railroad line east of South
Capitol Street.

As to the rest of the proposed design south of M Street, it
looks fine to me.
